Frequently Asked Questions

What is women's hormone replacement therapy (HRT)?

HRT is a medical treatment that replaces declining levels of female hormones (estrogen and progesterone) during perimenopause, menopause and post menopause, often used to alleviate symptoms like hot flashes, night sweats, and vaginal dryness.

Who should consider HRT?

Women experiencing bothersome menopausal symptoms, particularly hot flashes, vaginal dryness, and mood swings, who are generally healthy and have no significant risk factors for conditions like breast cancer or blood clots should discuss HRT with their doctor.

Who should not take HRT?

Women with a history of breast cancer, uterine cancer, blood clots, stroke, liver disease, or undiagnosed vaginal bleeding should generally not take HRT.

Can I take HRT if I still have a uterus?

If you still have a uterus, you will typically need to take both estrogen and progestin to prevent uterine cancer.

What are lifestyle changes?

Alongside HRT, consider lifestyle modifications like regular exercise, a healthy diet, and stress management to manage menopause symptoms.
