Frequently Asked Questions
What condition can potentially disqualify me from weight loss program?
Disqualifying conditions include a history of kidney disease, gallbladder disease, pancreatitis, medullary thyroid carcinoma, multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN) syndrome Type 2, thyroid nodule that has not been evaluated, pregnant or breastfeeding.
How much weight am I expected to lose?
Results vary based on medication, dosage, activity levels and other factors. On average clinical trials have shown patients losing about 15-20% of their body weight.
How long will my program last?
Depending on your goal, programs typically last 3-5 months. We have patients who have chosen to continue medication longer.
Are these medications covered by insurance?
Depends on your insurance coverage. If covered by your insurance, HealthWorx provider can submit prior authorization and necessary paperwork to get it approved but at the end it is up to your insurance coverage. If not covered or denied by your insurance, Wegovy and Zepbound are available by cash paid directly to pharmacy.
What are the potential side effects of GLP medication?
• GI: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.
• Local injection site reactions with bruising, discoloration, induration and pain.
• Risk of dehydration due to GI side effects.
• Risk of gallstones and hair loss, especially with rapid weight loss.
• Low blood sugar.
• Psychiatric effects: Suicidal behavior.
• Risk of thyroid c-cell tumors.
• Aspiration risk due to delayed gastric emptying. Stop at least 2 weeks prior to surgery.
• Semaglutide baby: could cause birth control failures or affect ovulation. Weight loss can improve fertility in some patients.
What happens when stopping these medications?
Weight can rebound in about a 2-year period if lifestyle changes learned while on these medications is not sustained.
How to get started?
Once you have done your research, you can arrange virtual Meet & Greet with HealthWorx provider at no cost.
If want to proceed with our Weight Loss Program, HealthWorx provider will coordinate lab work to be performed, schedule consultation at HealthWorx office to go over your lab results, medical history and physical exam, discuss treatment program, answer any questions. Once agreed upon and qualify for treatment, HealthWorx provider will order medication to be delivered to your home.
Follow up: HealthWorx provider will check-in with you periodically and available for any questions via text, phone calls, telehealth and in-person visit periodically to discuss progress.
